Putting together this site made me laugh and made me cry. Truly, there was NO ONE like Toni, as an artist or as a person. Her distinctive and original outward beauty was just a bit of fizz that bubbled up from her vitality, which was rarest champagne. Thank you for visiting her site!

If we're talking about the same one...Bela Zsiga was my Great Grandfather, he passed away in 1950-51ish while performing on stage, do you have any information about him?

My original cimbalom teacher, Gus Horvath, of Detroit, learned from Zsiga Bela in New York in the early '30s. He raved about him. I think some of the Zsiga family were in Detroit --- Rudy Zsiga specialized in Romanian numbers at the Gypsy concerts they used to have. I think your great-grandfather played at the funeral of Jancsi Rigo back in the '20s.

So nice to learn about Toni - I just found out about her from a visit to Ellis Island where her beautiful cimbalom playing is featured in an introductory film for visitors. I am a cimbalom player here in New York City. Am curious about her Steinway-built cimbaloms, are they still around? Many thanks, Pete

AuthorFriends and Family have probably guessed that Toni's daughter Louise, aka L.K.Steiner, put this history together for one and all. ArchivesCategories |
